.om domain registration: what it takes, and how we help

A .om or .com.om address tells customers you are an Omani business before they read a word of your site. Getting one involves the Omani registry's rules and some paperwork, so it is not an instant checkout item with us. Our team handles .om registration on request, and if you need to be online today, a .com registers in minutes.

We would rather say this plainly than let you find out at checkout. The same approach applies to our Saudi .sa names: where a registry needs documents checked by people, we do it with you rather than pretending it is a one-click purchase.

How the .om namespace works

The .om country-code domain is managed by Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and names are registered through registrars it accredits. Under .om there are several spaces; businesses most often choose between the short .om, the commercial .com.om and .co.om.

Unlike .com, an Omani name is tied to an identifiable registrant. The registry asks for company documents, commonly a copy of the commercial registration or the foreign equivalent, and checks that the name does not clash with a registered trademark. The rules were rewritten in a regulation that took effect in 2023, and the treatment of foreign companies has been eased since. Because the details keep moving, we confirm the current requirements for your case instead of printing a list here that could be out of date by next month.

Prepare these before you ask

Naming tips that come up again and again in Oman

What happens after you ask us for a .om

  1. You send the name and your documents through the contact page or WhatsApp. Nothing is charged at this stage.
  2. We check what the registry needs for that extension and for your type of company, and tell you plainly if something is missing or if the name looks unavailable.
  3. You receive the price in SAR and what it covers, in writing, before you decide.
  4. You approve, or you do not. If you approve, we take it from there and keep you informed. If not, you owe nothing.
  5. Once registered, the name is connected to your hosting, mailboxes and DNS on the same Skyline account.

We do not publish a turnaround time, because part of the process sits with the registry rather than with us. If you have a launch date, put it in your first message so we can tell you honestly whether it is realistic, and start the site on a .com in the meantime.

Already own a .om? Connect it in minutes

  1. Add the domain in the Skyline console.
  2. Choose where DNS lives. Keep it at your registrar and copy the records we show you, or point the nameservers to Skyline and manage DNS next to your hosting and mailboxes.
  3. Attach it to a website on web hosting; the SSL certificate is issued automatically once the domain points to us.
  4. Create mailboxes on Skyline Mail and add the SPF, DKIM and DMARC records the console generates.

Domain features such as transfer lock, WHOIS privacy and auto-renew apply to names registered through Skyline; for a .om held elsewhere, those stay with your registrar. The general domains and DNS page covers the console in more detail.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy a .om domain directly on your website?

Not yet. .om names are not available in our online checkout. Registration is handled on request through our team, because the Omani registry works through accredited registrars and asks for company documents. We tell you what is needed and the price in SAR before anything is charged.

What do I need to register a .om or .com.om domain?

Expect to provide company documents, typically a copy of your commercial registration or the equivalent for a foreign company, plus contact details for the registrant. Requirements differ by extension and have changed in recent years, so we confirm the current list for your case when you ask.

Who runs the .om registry?

The .om country-code domain is managed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) in Oman. Names are registered through registrars that it accredits.

What can I register instantly?

A .com, along with other common endings, can be searched and registered in the console straight away and paid from your wallet in SAR. A .com costs 99 SAR a year excluding VAT, about 10.151 OMR.

I already have a .om domain elsewhere. Can I use it with Skyline?

Yes. Add the domain in the console and either keep DNS at your current registrar and update the records there, or point the nameservers to Skyline and manage DNS with us. The registration stays with your current registrar.

Should I register both a .om and a .com?

For a brand you intend to keep, it is usually worth holding both, and pointing one at the other. The .om signals an Omani business; the .com is what many people type by habit and protects the name abroad.
