Sohar's economy moves containers, metal and paperwork. Freight forwarders, clearing agents, freezone traders and the suppliers to the industrial estate all live on documents that must arrive on time and systems that must not stop when one building has a problem. Skyline gives them company email, a shared server, hosting and an off-site copy of everything, run from Riyadh and supported in Arabic.

Sohar is the industrial capital of the Batinah coast. Its port and freezone handle a steady flow of cargo, the industrial area around them hosts metals, petrochemicals and heavy manufacturing, and the city sits on the road between Muscat and the UAE border. The businesses that grow around that activity are rarely office-only: they have a yard, a warehouse, a site office and people on the move between them, often with a head office or a partner in Muscat or across the border.
Three things follow. Email carries legally important paperwork. Systems are shared between places that are hours apart. And the physical environment, coastal and exposed to storms, is harder on equipment than a tower in the capital.
Bills of lading, packing lists, certificates of origin and customs declarations go back and forth by email all day. When a message goes missing, a container waits. A few practices make the difference:
Setup details are on the business email for Oman page.
Many Sohar firms run inventory or accounting software on a PC in the warehouse office, and staff in Muscat ring the warehouse to ask what is in stock. Moving the application to a cloud server in Riyadh changes that: one copy of the data, reachable from the yard, the warehouse, the Muscat office and a laptop at a customer's site.
| Typical need | Server to start with | SAR / month | About OMR |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small stock or accounting application, a few users | Riyadh 1 (1 vCPU, 4 GB) | 99 | 10.151 |
| Application plus database, users at two or three sites | Riyadh 2 (2 vCPU, 8 GB) | 189 | 19.379 |
| Several applications, heavier reporting | Riyadh 3 (4 vCPU, 16 GB) | 379 | 38.860 |
Servers run Linux with full root access. Check that your software vendor supports Linux, or a web-based version, before you move. Prices exclude VAT; OMR is approximate.
Freezone and port customers sometimes ask whether a system may sit outside Oman. If a contract or authority requires in-country hosting, use the local server request for that system and keep the rest in Riyadh.
In October 2021 Cyclone Shaheen came ashore on the Batinah coast, and the floods that followed reached homes, roads and businesses across the region. Companies that kept their only server and their only backup disk in the same ground-floor room learned the hard way that a backup next to the original is not a backup.
Sohar firms sell to customers who may never visit Oman. A clear bilingual site with services, certifications you genuinely hold, contact details and a quote form does a lot of quiet work. Web hosting from 49 SAR a month (about 5.024 OMR) covers it, with free SSL and daily backups. If you trade under a .com.om name, the .om domain guide explains how to connect it.
Compare with the neighbouring situations: Muscat head offices run branches from one account, and Duqm project teams set up for a fixed period.
Yes. Any business can open an account and start the 14-day trial without a card. Services run from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and are billed in Saudi riyals.
Normal attachments travel by email as usual. For very large packs, send a link from Skyline Drive instead; the receiver downloads it, and nobody's mail server rejects an oversized message.
Yes, if the system runs on a server both can reach. A Riyadh cloud server with full root access lets you install the application once and connect both sites over the internet.
Keep a copy of important files somewhere else. Skyline Backup sends an encrypted copy of PCs, servers and NAS devices to a vault in Saudi Arabia every night, and you can restore by date from the console.
We do not promise round-the-clock support. Support answers in Arabic and English by ticket, email and WhatsApp, and Oman is only one hour ahead of Riyadh. Plan maintenance and major changes for the working day rather than the night shift.
A server inside Oman is offered on request: describe the workload and we reply with availability, the specification and a SAR price. Nothing is charged before you approve.
Open an account, set up your shared addresses and back up one NAS. Fourteen days free, no card needed.
